DMH Inpatient & Outpatient Hospital Chargebooks

Section 2718(e) of the Public Health Service Act, which was enacted as part of the Affordable Care Act, requires that each hospital operating within the United States, for each year, establish and make public  a list of the hospital’s standard charges for items and services provided by the hospital.  Charges for services provided by DMH Inpatient & Outpatient Hospitals are set annually, and are reflected in the DMH Facilities’ Charge Books.  The Charge Book is a financial report that identifies the charges related to healthcare treatment activities of a hospital and/or mental health center.  Standard charges as they relate to Diagnosis Related Groupings (DRGs) are not applicable as the Department’s Inpatient Facility charges are uniform across all inpatient services and DRGs.

Note: Charges for services provided for laboratory/pathology testing, radiology, pharmacy, etc are charged at the cost rate that the DMH inpatient facility is charged by that service provider.   Also those services provided by non-DMH inpatient facility inpatient and outpatient medical service and ancillary providers for medically compromised patients during their inpatient stays are charged at the cost rate that the DMH inpatient facility is charged by that provider.

Chargebooks for Lemuel Shattuck Hospital and Tewksbury Hospital can be found on the Department of Public Health (DPH) Website.
