Eligibility
Mpox vaccination is recommended if:
- You had or think you had close, skin-to-skin contact with someone who was diagnosed with mpox.
- You had a sex partner in the past two weeks who was diagnosed with mpox.
- You are a gay, bisexual, or other man who has sex with men, or are transgender or nonbinary and in the past six months have had any of the following:
- A new diagnosis of one or more sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis)
- More than one sex partner
- You had any of the following in the past six months:
- Sex at a commercial sex venue, like a sex club or bathhouse
- Sex related to a large commercial event or in a place where mpox virus is spreading
- You have a sex partner who experienced any of the above.
- You anticipate experiencing any of the above scenarios.
- You are traveling to a country with a clade I mpox outbreak or new clade II outbreak and anticipate any of the following activities during travel:
- Sex with a new partner
- Sex at a commercial sex venue (e.g., a sex club or bathhouse)
- Sex in exchange for money, goods, drugs, or other trade
- Sex in association with a large public event (e.g., a rave, party, or festival)
- You work in a place with orthopoxviruses (e.g., certain people who work in a laboratory or a healthcare facility).
When you ask for vaccination, you will not be asked which of these risks you have. It is enough to say that you consider yourself to be at risk for mpox.
Vaccination against mpox is not recommended for the general public. Vaccination is not recommended for healthcare personnel unless sexual risk factors are present. If you have mpox now or had mpox in the past, you are not recommended to be vaccinated for mpox.

About the JYNNEOS vaccine
When given before or soon after close, skin-to-skin contact (including intimate contact) with someone who has mpox, the JYNNEOS vaccine can help protect against mpox disease.
JYNNEOS is a 2-dose vaccine. The two doses are given 28 days (4 weeks) apart.
Getting both recommended doses of JYNNEOS vaccine provides the best protection against mpox.
People who get vaccinated should continue to protect themselves from getting mpox.
