BOSTON — Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell today issued the following statement after a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia stayed the Trump Administration’s decision to end Haiti’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which was set to expire tomorrow.
“Today’s decision is a resounding win for the tens of thousands of hardworking Haitian TPS recipients in Massachusetts who deserve fairness, dignity and opportunity. Our Haitian residents fill critical roles in our health care and elder care industries, enrich our culture, and strengthen our Commonwealth. I won’t stop fighting for them or any other immigrant group that this administration chooses to unlawfully and cruelly target,” said AG Campbell.
AG Campbell led amicus briefs in lawsuits challenging the Trump Administration’s partial vacatur of Haiti TPS (TPS v. Noem; Haitian-Americans United v. Trump; and HECA v. Trump), which would have gone into effect in September, if it weren’t for a favorable court ruling, as well as an amicus brief in the case involved in today’s decision challenging the subsequent termination of Haiti TPS, which was slated to go into effect tomorrow, February 3.
