Media Contact for AG Campbell Denounces Efforts To Suspend Businesses' Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion Practices
Molly McGlynn
BOSTON — Today, Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell joined a multistate letter denouncing the recent attempt of 13 attorneys general to threaten action against Fortune 100 companies that engage in practices to foster and support a diverse workforce.
Statement from Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell:
“The letter sent last week is an intimidation tactic to get private companies to halt efforts that address inequities and break down barriers for all our residents to enter and thrive in the workplace.
The Supreme Court’s decision to outlaw affirmative action has no effect on private companies’ efforts to recruit a diverse applicant pool and ensure that workplaces are welcoming and supportive of people of all backgrounds. Companies are not required to ignore history, nor let present inequities persist. The Massachusetts business community knows this well, and I applaud their efforts.
The private sector should not be intimidated by attorneys general suggesting that combating historic inequities is somehow illegal. Recruiting diverse workforces and creating inclusive work environments benefits all of us - and is good for business and profit margins, too.
As Attorney General, I will continue to call out and stand up against any attempt to harass businesses that engage in vital diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts that expand opportunities for all.”
