Boston — Attorney General Maura Healey has named Thomas J. Sartory as a member of the State Ethics Commission to serve a five-year term.

Sartory is a Director in the Litigation Department at Goulston & Storrs, PC and General Counsel to the Firm, and has served for more than 25 years on the Massachusetts Bar Association Committee on Professional Ethics, where he provides guidance on ethical issues to other attorneys.

Sartory has also served as Special Counsel to the Judicial Conduct Commission, as a Hearing Officer for the Board of Bar Overseers, and as a member of the Harvard Medical School Committee on Human Studies and the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility. Sartory is a graduate of Loyola University and Harvard Law School and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the United States District Courts for the District of Massachusetts and the Northern District of Florida, the First Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States. Sartory is a resident of Charlestown.

Sartory will be filling the vacancy of the Attorney General’s previous appointee, Martin Murphy, Esq.

The five-member State Ethics Commission is a non-partisan, independent state agency which is responsible for the enforcement of the state’s Conflict of Interest and Financial Disclosure Forms. The Commission’s mission is to foster integrity in public service in state, county, and local government; to promote the public’s trust and confidence in that service; and to prevent conflicts between private interests and public duties.
