Press Release  Applications Now Accepted to Host Scam and Fraud Prevention Workshops Across Massachusetts

Boston — The State Treasurer’s Office of Economic Empowerment, in a public-private partnership with People’s United Bank and the Financial Planners Association, is now accepting applications to host workshops for the 2019 Scam and Fraud Prevention program. In its third year, the initiative delivers educational programs to senior citizens across Massachusetts through collaborations with local Councils on Aging and other senior-serving organizations.

“May is Older Americans Month and a reminder that the elderly are the most frequent targets of financial scams and fraud,” said Treasurer Deborah Goldberg. “I am grateful for our continued partnerships and for the opportunity to provide workshops and educate seniors about potential financial exploitation.”

“People’s United Bank is proud to partner with State Treasurer Goldberg’s Office of Economic Empowerment in providing Financial Literacy workshops throughout the Commonwealth to senior citizens,” stated Grace H. Lee, FVP, Director of Government Banking at People’s United Bank. “People’s United Bank’s Preventing Financial Exploitation workshop educates the general public, but especially senior citizens on how to recognize and prevent common types of fraud, scams, and other forms of financial exploitation.”
