Boston, MA — The Public Hearing on the Formal Charges against Superior Court Judge Maria I. Lopez will begin on Monday, November 18, 2002 at 9:00 AM. The Hearing will take place in Courtroom 9 on the fourth floor of the Edward W. Brooke Courthouse, 24 New Chardon Street, in Boston. The Hearing will be presided over by the Hearing Officer appointed by the Supreme Judicial Court, retired Chief Justice of the Housing Court Department, E. George Daher.

The Formal Charges and the Judge's Response are available on the Commission's web site: www.mass.gov/cjc. 

Also available on the web site are the Commission's statute and rules. This Hearing will take place pursuant to G.L. c.211C, §7 and Commission Rule 10.

    The Massachusetts Commission on Judicial Conduct (CJC) is the state agency responsible for investigating complaints alleging that a state court judge has engaged in judicial misconduct or has a disability preventing him or her from properly performing judicial duties.

    The CJC is also responsible for pursuing, when it is appropriate, remedial action or discipline against state court judges.
