BOSTON, MA — The average weekly wage in the Commonwealth (SAWW) effective October 1, 2023 as determined under
M.G.L. c. 151A, §29(2) and promulgated by the Director of Unemployment Assistance, is $1,796.72 [Please
consult Table III]. An illustration of the application of this newly established SAWW on weekly benefit rates
for claims involving injuries occurring on or after October 1, 2023 is as follows:

    The Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) oversees the Massachusetts workers’ compensation system, pursuant to M.G.L. c. 152, c. 23E, and 452 CMR § 1.00 - 9.00. Our Division of Dispute Resolution functions as the court system for disputed cases. Also the DIA ensures all Massachusetts employers have Workers' Compensation insurance coverage for their employees.
