- Department of Family and Medical Leave
The Massachusetts Department of Family and Medical Leave is seeking an Operations Manager to help administer the Commonwealth’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave Law (PFML).
Under the direction of the Director of Paid Family and Medical Leave, the Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, administration, and operations (both internal and external) of the Department, while assisting to develop strategic business plans to achieve departmental goals and objectives. Additional responsibilities include policy development and implementation, oversight of audits and data analytics, and establishing vendor relationships. The Operations Manager acts as back up to the Director in his/her absence, assuming the responsibility for overall department administration, finance and operations of the PMFL Program and works closely with the inter-agency data sharing group.
On June 28, 2018 Governor Baker signed H. 4640 An Act relative to minimum wage, paid family medical leave and the sales tax holiday. This legislation establishes a new department to administer the paid family and medical leave program which will provide income replacement for Massachusetts workers who take leave from work to care for family members, bond with newborn or adopted children, or to attend to their own serious medical condition. The program will be available to every worker in Massachusetts and will affect every employer in the state.
The new law requires the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) to establish a new state department to administer the program. The Department will be staffed and fully operational by July 1, 2019. On this date, the department will begin collecting funds through payroll deductions and payment of benefits to eligible employees will begin on January 1, 2021.
