Dorchester — A Dorchester man has been arrested and arraigned in connection with allegedly trafficking heroin, Attorney General Maura Healey announced today.

Authorities arrested Bolivar Coste, a.k.a. Michael Cortes-Catala, age 43, in Dorchester on Thursday in a joint federal and state investigation. Coste was arraigned on Friday in Dorchester District Court on the charges of Distributing Heroin (two counts), Trafficking Heroin (one count), and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition (one count).

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was held on $25,000 bail. Coste is due back in Dorchester District Court on Oct. 13 for a probable cause hearing.

The charges are the result of a long-term, collaborative investigation into a heroin trafficking network by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the AG’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Boston Police.

During the execution of a search warrant at Coste’s home, authorities located ammunition and materials associated with the packaging and sale of drugs. Coste was arrested near his home just prior to execution of the warrant. He was found with more than 40 grams of heroin on him.

This investigation is ongoing. These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Gina Masotta and Sara Shannon, both of AG Healey’s Criminal Bureau. The case is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police assigned to the AG’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Boston Police.
