Genoveva Andrade pleaded guilty on March 7, 2022, to lying to federal agents investigating Jasiel F. Correia II, the former mayor of Fall River convicted last year of extortion and wire fraud.
Andrade, who had served as Correia’s campaign manager and chief of staff, was indicted with Correia in 2019 on charges of extorting money from business owners seeking to open licensed marijuana establishments in Fall River. She was also charged with bribery for paying Correia a significant portion of the salary she received as chief of staff and lying to federal agents about paying the kickbacks. As part of a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Andrade pleaded guilty to one count of lying to federal agents about the salary-kickback arrangement; the other charges were dropped.
U.S. District Court Judge Douglas P. Woodlock sentenced Andrade to time served, one year of probation and a $50,000 fine.
