Boston — Today, the Healey-Driscoll Administration launched the application for the Massachusetts 250 Grant Program, an initiative designed to support communities and organizations commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. This competitive grant program, administered by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT), aims to support projects that engage residents and visitors with Massachusetts's rich revolutionary history. In this second round of the program, $2 million is available to help municipalities and nonprofits create historical programs, cultural events, educational initiatives, and tourism efforts that highlight the state's essential role in the nation's founding.

“We are so excited to be showcasing Massachusetts’ revolutionary history through programming in communities all across the state,” said Governor Maura Healey. “Our administration is committed to supporting cities, towns and organizations as they plan events for residents and visitors alike that celebrate the unique role their communities played in the founding of our nation. We encourage anyone who has a story to tell and wants to be involved in Massachusetts 250 to apply for these grants.”

“The 250th anniversary is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring people together and showcase what makes Massachusetts revolutionary,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “This funding will help communities create experiences that engage, educate, and inspire. Over the next two years, we’re building momentum toward a national celebration, and we want everyone to be part of this celebration of Massachusetts’ revolutionary legacy.”

“This is Team Massachusetts in action—communities, organizations, and partners coming together to create a truly statewide celebration,” said Economic Development Secretary Yvonne Hao. “These grants will help ensure every corner of the state can take part in this milestone, showcasing the diversity, spirit, and enduring significance of Massachusetts’s role in the nation’s founding.”

In September 2024, during an event to launch the statewide Massachusetts 250 initiative, Governor Healey announced $1.5 million in grants to 37 organizations through the first round of the Massachusetts 250 grant program to support projects like historical reenactments, museum exhibits, community festivals, educational programs, and marketing initiatives.

“With the second round of Massachusetts 250 grants, we’re bringing history to life through unforgettable experiences,” said Kate Fox, executive director of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. “Walk in the footsteps of revolutionaries, immerse yourself in vibrant cultural events, and uncover the stories that shaped our nation. Now is the time to plan Massachusetts adventures—celebrating 250 years of revolution and possibility.”

The second round of MA250 grant funding strengthens celebrations and partnerships across Massachusetts, supporting communities, many of which will mark their 250th anniversaries in 2025, preparing for the national semiquincentennial in 2026.

Applications for the second round of the FY25 Massachusetts 250 Grant Program are now open, and the submission deadline is April 11, 2025. MOTT will host an informational webinar for applicants on March 12, 2025, at 11 a.m. Register here.
