Press Release  In Memory of Commissioner Chester

Boston — We are immensely saddened by the news of Commissioner Chester's passing. Commissioner Chester has been a fearless champion on behalf of LGBTQ students. In the face of fear and bias, Commissioner Chester stood firm in advocating for the right of all students to a safe and supportive learning environment. He made possible a groundbreaking guidance on transgender students, principles affirming LGBTQ students, and the growth of the Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students.

In addition to his work for LGBTQ students, Commissioner Chester was on the forefront of student assessment, school improvement efforts, and supporting all disenfranchised students.

Commissioner Chester was an esteemed colleague and friend of the Commission. His leadership and presence will be missed.
