Consumers who own a home or are planning to own one know that it’s important to plan for the use of their property, both inside and outdoors. Often these homeowners will turn to licensed Landscape Architects.

Landscape Architects design the outdoor spaces in which people live, work and play. Their main goal is to create environments that are beautiful, functional and harmonize with ecological principles. Moreover, they have the experience to assist homeowners whose property has unusual problems such as drainage, grading, wind considerations or who have special gardening desires, site planning needs for swimming pools, spas, terraces, parking, walks, etc.

Their services are also often used by:

  • Municipal governments planning improvements such as streetscape revitalization, creation of zoning regulations, traffic planning and development of parks and recreation facilities;
  • Land or property management firms planning for development of property, a change in land use, or management of a land resource;
  • Conservation and preservation organizations planning for the preservation of delicate, cultural, historical or natural resources;
  • Utility companies in planning for new facilities including assessment, impact and routing of utility lines

Landscape architects are licensed by the Division of Professional Licensure’s Board of Registration of Landscape Architects. If you have a serious complaint against a licensed landscape architect, contact the Division of Professional Licensure’s Office of Investigations.
