BOSTONThe Massachusetts Office for Refugees and Immigrants (ORI) is receiving a $400,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families–Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to fund the first-year activities of the new Wilson-Fish Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Coordination Program (WF TCP).  This funding will enable ORI to provide newly arrived eligible refugee families with skills, tools, and resources necessary for building self-sufficiency and community integration.

The program aims to fill service gaps by providing foundational case management services; remote foundational case management services, as needed in the southeastern portion of the state below the Boston metropolitan area and eastwards into the Cape & the Islands; customized employment services in Springfield; and customized resources to support self-sufficiency and integration.

“Although refugees come to the United States with skills and with the resilience and perseverance to succeed, they face many barriers to their personal and familial well-being and self-sufficiency,” said ORI Executive Director Mary Truong. “We have tailored the new Wilson Fish TC Program to take a hands-on approach, builds employment readiness skills that increase job retention, and focuses on building self-sufficiency and advocacy.”

The program is designed to be cost effective, building upon existing resources and technologies, and sustainable in the long term, as it will utilize reusable resources and implement curricula designed to be easy to customize and replicate.

The grant period for the WF TCP is four-year from FFY 2021 to FFY 2024.

ORI’s mission is to promote the full participation of refugees and immigrants as self-sufficient individuals and families in the economic, social, and civic life of Massachusetts. ORI administers programs that provide direct services to newly arrived refugees and immigrants. Supports are provided through a network of voluntary resettlement agencies, faith-based organizations and ethnic community-based organizations, which have the capacity to serve the culturally and linguistically diverse needs of newcomer populations. Program supports are aimed at improving access to citizenship services, workforce readiness supports, health, financial Literacy and other social support services.
