Yesterday evening, the IRS announced that it is providing federal taxpayers with an extra day to file their returns, because of system issues the agency experienced Tuesday. In keeping with its practice of coordinating its tax filing date with the IRS, Massachusetts will treat a state tax return as timely if it is filed by midnight on April 18, and there will be no late file or late payment penalties for state tax returns filed by that time.
