Boston — A Missouri man has been indicted in connection with illegally possessing a firearm in a car at the Plainridge Park Casino, Attorney General Maura Healey announced today.
Jose Alves, age 30, of Springfield, Missouri, was indicted today by a Norfolk County Grand Jury on the charges of Unlicensed Possession of a Firearm as a second offender (one count) and of Unlicensed Possession of a Loaded Firearm (one count).
He will be arraigned in Norfolk Superior Court at a later date.
Plainville Police and State Police assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Unit arrested Alves on March 6 at the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville.
Authorities allege that Alves was engaging in suspicious activity at one of the casino cashier counters and later determined that he had an active extradition warrant out of Missouri. During a search of Alves’ car, authorities located a firearm in the center console. Alves is not licensed to possess a firearm and has previously been convicted of illegally possessing a firearm in Massachusetts.
All of these charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Kristyn Dusel, of AG Healey’s Gaming Enforcement Division, with assistance from Victim Witness Advocate Rebecca Auld, of AG Healey’s Victim Witness Services Division, and Paralegal Zach Gregoric, also of AG Healey’s Gaming Enforcement Division. The case was investigated by Plainville Police and State Police assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Unit assigned to the casino and AG Healey’s Gaming Enforcement Division.
