Boston — The Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association (MSA) congratulates Lori Streeter on her appointment as Interim Franklin County Sheriff. With more than 35 years of service at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and House of Corrections, Streeter has demonstrated unwavering dedication to public safety, rehabilitation, and innovative corrections practices.

“Sheriff Lori Streeter brings an incredible depth of knowledge, leadership and vision to her new role,” said MSA President and Norfolk County Sheriff Patrick W. McDermott, “The public safety needs of Franklin County are in good hands, thanks to Sheriff Streeter’s expertise in critical areas such as offender rehabilitation and reentry.”

Kristen Elechko, Western Massachusetts Director for the Governor’s Office, administered the oath of office to Streeter on Friday, following the official retirement of Sheriff Christopher Donelan.

“Lori’s dedication to public safety and her deep commitment to the community make her an excellent choice for this role. I look forward to working alongside her as we continue our collective mission to serve and protect the people of the Commonwealth,” said Sheriff Nick Cocchi, vice president of the Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association. “I have no doubt that her leadership will ensure a smooth transition and continued success for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.”

Since 2014, Streeter has served as Superintendent and Special Sheriff, overseeing operations, staff, and key initiatives that prioritize mental health and substance use treatment, as well as re-entry programs that strengthen communities.

“It is an immense privilege to continue this mission set forth by Sheriff Donelan,” Sheriff Streeter said. “My years of service have given me a unique perspective and strong knowledge base to manage the agency and the ever-changing needs of the community, our staff and the people we serve.”

Streeter’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing corrections policies that focus on rehabilitation and public health. She has played a key role in the development of the Franklin County Community Justice and Re-Entry Center, worked to expand treatment opportunities for those in custody, and led a 320-bed facility with a staff of 250 professionals. Her expertise and commitment make her well-suited to step into this role, continuing the mission of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The MSA also extends its gratitude to Sheriff Donelan for his years of dedicated service to Franklin County and the Commonwealth. Throughout his tenure, Sheriff Donelan has been a strong advocate for progressive corrections policies and has led efforts to enhance treatment and re-entry services for individuals in his care.

His leadership and commitment to public safety have left a lasting impact, and the MSA wishes him well in his retirement. The Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association looks forward to working with Interim Sheriff Streeter and supporting her as she takes on this important role.
