Jacquelyn Goddard, Director of Communications, MassDOT
SOUTH YARMOUTH — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is pleased to announce it will be opening a new, fully accessible service center location in South Yarmouth on Monday, December 9. This 9,050 square foot service center is located at 1084 Route 28, in the same strip mall as the temporary location that was operating there.
“Our new, conveniently located service center in South Yarmouth includes an improved design for a customer-centered experience, enhanced accessibility for safety, and green features that benefit the environment,” said Registrar of Motor Vehicles Colleen Ogilvie. “We appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication for the creation of this pristine facility.”
The space is newly renovated and includes several updates to enhance safety, accessibility, and the customer experience. The space also includes a dedicated business-to-business area, which includes a dedicated entrance for the RMV’s commercial customers. Additionally, the permit testing room, transaction counters and public waiting area have all been expanded in comparison to the temporary service center that was operating in South Yarmouth.
Other upgrades include the addition of an employee wellness room, real-time indoor air quality monitoring, and a new workspace for road test examiners. The facility that houses the new service center was completely gutted and all new electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems were installed. Additionally, a new fire suppression system and fire alarm system were both installed.
The temporary service center in South Yarmouth, which is located at the same plaza, will be closed for business as of 5 p.m. on Friday, December 6. The new service center in South Yarmouth permanently replaces the temporary service center in the plaza at 1084 Route 28, which closed for renovations in December of 2022.
Over the past several years, the RMV has made strides in building an industry leading environment for individual and commercial customers, as well as for business and government partners. Since 2015, new or renovated service centers have opened in Brockton, Danvers, Haverhill, Lawrence, Leominster, New Bedford, Plymouth, Springfield, and Worcester. The RMV’s goal is to have locations which ensure improved accessibility and parking, efficient customer intake capability and seating, green construction with sustainability features, and an overall improved design to support customer needs.
The RMV recommends that all customers “skip the trip” and visit RMV’s Online Service Center for over 60 transactions including: renewing a driver’s license, renewing a registration, paying a citation, requesting a hearing, accessing a variety of transactions for businesses, and when an in-person visit is necessary, scheduling an appointment.
If you have scheduled an appointment online, the RMV encourages you to prepare for your reservation by going to Mass.Gov/RMV for transaction information, forms, applications, and instructions.
