Boston — The owner of a Revere contracting company has been indicted in connection with a workers’ compensation insurance fraud scheme, Attorney General Maura Healey announced today.
Anner Valentin Amaya, 45, of Revere, was indicted by a Suffolk County Grand Jury on Workers’ Compensation Fraud (5 counts), Failure to Provide Workers’ Compensation Insurance (2 Counts), and Larceny Over $250 by False Pretenses (5 counts). He will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on April 17.
The AG’s Office began an investigation after this matter was referred to the office by the Insurance Fraud Bureau. The AG’s Office alleges that between May 2012 and August 2016, Amaya, who owns the business Valentin General Contractors, substantially underreported the number of individuals his business employed and the amount he paid these employees when audited by his workers’ compensation insurance provider. In total, the AG’s Office alleges that Amaya evaded more than $73,000 in insurance premiums.
These charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
AG Healey’s Insurance and Unemployment Fraud Unit works to protect consumers and the integrity of the insurance system by investigating and prosecuting those who commit fraud against all types of insurers, including the state’s unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation systems.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Kristy Lavigne with assistance from Senior Investigator Philip Mantyla of AG Healey’s Insurance and Unemployment Fraud Unit, and from investigators at the Insurance Fraud Bureau.
