Press Release  Sandwich Man Charged with Selling Oxycodone on Cape Cod

Barnstable — A Sandwich man has been arrested and arraigned in connection with allegedly selling thousands of dollars worth of oxycodone on Cape Cod, Attorney General Maura Healey announced today.

Michael Allen Fritz, age 26, was arrested in Plymouth on May 18 in a joint operation involving State Police assigned to the Attorney General’s Office and Sandwich Police. He was arraigned May 19 in Barnstable District Court on one count each of Possession to Distribute a Class B Drug (Oxycodone), Improper Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Wantonly Injuring Real or Personal Property and Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law.

“We allege this defendant was illegally selling oxycodone and contributing to the prescription drug abuse epidemic that is ravaging communities on Cape Cod and across our state,” AG Healey said. “Our office is committed to working with our local, state and federal law partners to tackle the opioid crisis and hold accountable those who sell these addictive prescription drugs.”

Fritz pleaded not guilty to the charges at the arraignment and was held on $7,500 cash bail. He is due back in Barnstable District Court on June 7 for a probable cause hearing.

Police began investigating Fritz several months ago in connection with distributing narcotics on Cape Cod. He was arrested during a motor vehicle stop for an expired inspection sticker. During the arrest, authorities located about 100 pills, later determined to be oxycodone, worth about $4,000.

During the investigation, authorities executed search warrants on Fritz’s home in Sandwich and Sunsational Tanning, a tanning salon he operates in Sandwich.

This investigation remains ongoing. The charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Marina Moriarty, of AG Healey’s Enterprise, Major and Cyber Crimes Division, and Assistant Attorney General Erika Anderson, of AG Healey’s White Collar and Public Integrity Division, with assistance from Paralegal Emily Bartlett, also of AG Healey’s Enterprise, Major and Cyber Crimes Division. The case is being investigated by State Police assigned to the AG’s Office, Sandwich Police and Bourne Police.
