BostonAttorney General Maura Healey today released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Janus v. AFSCME Council 31:

“Today, the Supreme Court turned its back on millions of Americans who keep our communities safe, educate our children, and care for our most vulnerable populations,” said AG Healey. “This ruling makes it harder for public employees to collectively bargain for the policies that helped build our middle class, from fair wages to affordable health care. My office will never stop fighting to protect working families and basic workplace rights here in Massachusetts and across the country.”

Today’s Supreme Court decision reversed decades of precedent allowing unions to collect a fair share fee from all public sector workers who decline to join and pay dues to a union that represents them.
