Boston — Attorney General Maura Healey today issued this statement in response to the House and Senate approving final language in the state budget that includes a Municipal Naloxone Bulk Purchase Trust Fund.
“I would like to thank the Conference Committee, Speaker DeLeo, Senate President Rosenberg and Senator Keenan for including language in the budget that will allow the Commonwealth to offer a discounted bulk purchasing program for Naloxone (Narcan) services. We are pleased to have worked with Senate leadership on this essential fund, which will help address dramatic price increases that have made the drug very expensive for our cities and towns and the first responders who need to administer this life-saving tool to overdose victims. Opiates now take more lives in our state than car accidents and guns combined, and we’re working hard to make Narcan more accessible to all those who want it. Our office intends to make its own contributions to this fund and encourages other entities – both private and public – to do the same.”
