BOSTON — Attorney General Maura Healey today released the following statement in response to reports of President Trump’s expected decision to abandon the Paris Climate Agreement:
"This is a moral issue, and our generation, like all generations before us, have an obligation to leave this planet better for our children. Last year, our nation joined with 195 countries to commit to addressing the very serious threat of climate change. The historic agreement has earned the overwhelming support of the American people and the approval of leading energy producers. The President's expected decision to break the deal imperils our planet, our residents and future generations, undermines our growing clean energy economy, and abdicates our position as a global leader. Should President Trump abandon the Paris climate agreement, he will be taking us backwards and will be doing so against the advice of American businesses and the pleas of global allies. The health and safety of our residents and communities, and the viability of our emerging clean energy economy and hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs, are all put at risk through his reckless acts. I will fight to maintain our participation in the Paris agreement and we urge other states and the public to join us at this critical time."
