BostonTreasurer Deb Goldberg announced a private-public collaboration with the Greater Boston offices of Ernst & Young LLP (EY) to expand the “Massachusetts Women in Finance Fellowship” in its third year. The initiative will place Massachusetts’s female-identifying undergraduate students into financial departments within the Massachusetts State Treasury.

“Women continue to graduate from colleges and universities at a higher rate than men. However, they are still underrepresented in traditionally higher paying jobs like those in the financial services industry,” said Treasurer Deb Goldberg. “This Fellowship program in conjunction with the EY Greater Boston offices will provide talented women the opportunity to develop the skills and self-confidence to take on challenges throughout their careers.”

The expansion will pair each Fellow with a female EY professional acting as a “private sector advisor.” The private sector advisor will provide insight into the private financial services industry. The expansion will allow Fellows to gain exposure to and build professional networks within a multinational professional services firm.

"We are excited to participate in a program that allows our women professionals to make a further impact on the industry by mentoring and supporting the next generation of women leaders” said Jane Steinmetz, EY Boston Office Managing Partner.

The deadline to apply is January 28, 2018. The program begins in June and will run for 10 weeks and will begin with a site visit at Ernst & Young LLP. For more information or to apply please visit https://www.mass.gov/women-in-finance-fellowship.

Treasurer Goldberg created the Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE) to implement a range of economic empowerment initiatives that include closing the gender wage gap, increasing access to financial education, improving college affordability, and investing in STEM careers and education.
