HAVERHILL — Today Housing and Community Development Undersecretary Chrystal Kornegay celebrated the opening of Tenney Place in Haverhill. The ribbon cutting opens the first phase of the Tenney Place project, which will bring 72 new units of mixed-income family rental housing, and new community space, playgrounds and open space to Haverhill.
The development’s first phase includes 56 affordable units and 16 market-rate units. DHCD awarded a number of state and federal subsidies and tax credits to phase 1 of the project in 2014. Phase 1 also received financing from Mass Housing Partnership, MassHousing, Bank of America and Boston Community Capital.
This August, DHCD awarded Dakota Partners, developers of Tenney Place, funds to construct the development’s second phase. Tenney Place Phase 2 will offer an additional 72 units of mixed-income family housing, including 56 affordable family rental units. Eight of the rental units in Tenney Place Phase 2 will be reserved for extremely low-income households.

Investments in affordable housing developments and renovations reflect the Baker-Polito Administration’s commitment to ensuring that residents have access to affordable housing throughout Massachusetts. In May, the administration unveiled a 5-year Capital Budget plan that includes a $1.1 billion commitment to increasing housing production. This commitment represents an 18% funding increase for production and housing preservation for existing affordable units across the state.
Since 2015, the Baker-Polito Administration has provided funding to create and preserve 2,856 units of affordable housing, including 874 deeply affordable units for at-risk populations.
