update on vida health program and GLP1 coverage

Below is an important update on the Vida Health program and upcoming changes to GLP-1 coverage for the treatment of obesity.

Vida Health Prescribing Through June 30, 2026

Members who are currently using—or would like to start—GLP-1 medications for weight loss, you must go through the Vida Health program until June 30, 2026. This process will remain in place with no exceptions to ensure consistency and minimize confusion during this transition period.

Vida Health Program Extended (Without Prescriptions)

The Vida Health program will continue from July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026, without the prescribing component. During this time, members can still use Vida Health for:

  • Weight management support
  • Behavioral coaching
  • Meeting with registered dietitians

After July 1, 2026, prescribing for GLP-1 medications will transition to members’ community providers. Vida Health will also support members in identifying direct-pay options once coverage ends.

GLP-1 Coverage Changes Effective July 1, 2026

Coverage for GLP-1 medications for the treatment of obesity will end for members who do not have an FDA-approved comorbidity.

Coverage will continue for:

  • Members using GLP-1 medications for diabetes
  • Members with a BMI of 27 or higher who have an FDA-approved comorbidity*

*Please note that FDA guidelines are subject to change.

Prescriptions After July 1, 2026

Starting July 1, 2026:

  • All GLP-1 prescriptions will be handled by your regular (community) healthcare provider
  • Medications will require prior authorization through CVS
  • Group Insurance Commission

The Group Insurance Commission (GIC) provides high-quality, affordable health insurance and other benefit options to over 220,000 subscribers and 460,000 members.
