The Gun Violence Prevention Unit seeks to bolster gun violence prevention measures in the Commonwealth through civil and criminal enforcement, legislative advocacy, and community outreach and engagement across the Commonwealth. The GVPU also acts as a bridge between federal, state, local, and non-governmental organizations working together for the health and safety of our communities.
Some of the GVPU’s other work includes:
- providing technical assistance for law enforcement officers on compliance with the Commonwealth’s gun laws;
- coordinating gun law enforcement, litigation, and gun-related policy work across the office;
- supporting the Attorney General Office’s defense of commonsense gun laws from legal challenges; and
- supporting community-based gun violence prevention work through outreach and grant-making.
