Route 20 reconstruction project in Charlton & Oxford

This project improved safety and roadway conditions on Route 20 in Charlton and Oxford, MA.

About 26,000 vehicles travel along this 3.2-mile section of Route 20 through Charlton and Oxford each day. MassDOT redesigned and reconstructed Route 20 in Charlton and Oxford to improve safety and traffic operations. This work included widening the roadway, replacing bridges over the Little River and the French River, adding sidewalks and shared use paths with improved bicycle and pedestrian accommodations, installing a median barrier, enhancing stormwater treatment, and improving safety and traffic operations at various intersections, including the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Route 20 and Oxbow Road.

The project was advertised under MassDOT’s Design-Build Program and MassDOT selected a Design-Builder Team, D.W. White Construction Inc. and TranSystems in November 2022.
