Adult/Adolescent SANE services

Find Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) services for patients 12 years and older

Adult/Adolescent SANE Program

Certified MA SANEs are specially-trained to perform quality medical forensic examinations for patients 12 years of age and older. They respond in collaboration with a community rape crisis advocate to 30 Massachusetts Department of Public Health designated SANE sites across the state when paged by hospital staff that a sexual assault patient has presented. SANEs will obtain and document the patient’s report of their assault, perform a forensic exam and evidence collection, and collaborate with hospital providers for timely administration of medications that can help to prevent assault-related pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV.
