DMH on Race Equity/Social Justice

Department of Mental Health Stance on Race Equity/Social Justice

DMH is committed to becoming an anti-racist organization.

We say “becoming” because we know that this is a journey, and that this is a work in progress.

We acknowledge that while much of this work has been brought to the forefront because of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and too many others, we remind ourselves that the conditions that led to the taking of their lives have been present for centuries.

This commitment requires an examination of:

  • The policies which contribute to the perpetuation of systemic racism;
  • The practices that we engage in on a daily basis which bolster those systems and further oppress People of Color; and
  • The ways that each of us, on a personal level, can actively dismantle White Supremacy and promote Racial Justice.
