Re: School Closure

On November 4, 2003, the Department received notice that the Greater Lowell Computer Center (GLCC), a former franchise of Xintra Institute of Technology, was closed by an Execution on Money Judgment issued by the Lowell District Court. The judgment was obtained by a former Xintra student against GLCC d/b/a Xintra, Gerald Boisvert, and four other Xintra entities.

As of this date, GLCC is closed. The Department has been working with a potential new computer school in Lowell that has expressed interest in providing a "teach out" for all current GLCC students who would like to complete their computer training. The new school may be available to begin classes as early as November 10th. If the new school offers a "teach out" to GLCC students, it will provide a Teach Out Agreement that meets with the Department's Guidelines. These guidelines may be viewed on our web-site.

GLCC has complied with 603 CMR 3.12(3) and has provided the Department with a name and contact information of a repositor who is responsible for maintaining students' permanent records, payment records, and enrollment contracts for a period of seven years from the date of closing. Any student needing access to his or her records should contact:

Students who are attending school under M.G.L. 151A section 30 unemployment law and 430 CMR 9.0, please contact the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (formerly known as the Department of Employment and Training) at 617-626-5375 to notify them of this disruption in educational services. They will work with you to make the necessary adjustments to your claim.

Please watch this web-site for an updated bulletin within seven days. At that time students will be given information on how to participate in the "teach out" by the new school or how to file a claim for restitution of their unearned tuition. At this time, students should NOT file a complaint or a claim for restitution against GLCC until we have more information.

The Department will keep students informed by posting updated bulletins as new information becomes available. The Department greatly appreciates your help in keeping the volume of phone calls it receives to a minimum by checking these bulletins as it helps our small staff concentrate on completing the high volume of work experienced by this unit. We thank you for your help and patience in this matter.
