The Office of Court Interpreters (OCIS) has posted in all court locations a multilingual poster that says in 30 languages: "You have the right to an interpreter at no cost to you. Please point to your language. An interpreter will be called. Please wait."
This poster was modified by The Mass Law Reform Institute from a version of an Interpreter Services poster first prepared by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. It reflects the multiple languages of the state and alerts LEP persons to their right to an interpreter while helping the court identify the correct language.
In a larger format as a welcoming multilingual poster, it can function as a notice to LEP persons that the court provides them interpreters free of charge. In a smaller format, the notice can be used to aide court staff when working with an LEP individual to help identify language or for persons seeking to communicate language needs to court staff. The OCIS has posted the notice at entry points in the courts and made the document available for download.
