Section 8 Veterans Housing Voucher Program

The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) manages this program that serves homeless veterans with disabilities, severe psychiatric, and/or substance abuse disorders.

Program Guidelines and Information

DHCD's Division of Public Housing and Rental Assistance has the responsibility for the oversight of all state and federally-aided rental assistance programs which address the needs of low-income families, elderly, and persons with disabilities.

 

How it works

Section 8/HCVP uses rental vouchers from HUD with ongoing case management and clinical services provided by Veterans Administration Supportive Housing (VASH). Services include:

  • Housing search assistance
  • Community-based management
  • Outpatient health
  • Hospitalization

Not all applicants may receive services.

Who is eligible

Homeless disabled veterans who are Section 8/ HCVP eligible.

Application process

Admission is by referral only from:

  • Massachusetts Department of Veterans' Services
  • VA Medical Centers
  • Department of Veteran's Services provider agencies

Grants

Up to 92 VASH subsidies are distributed by DHCD throughout the Commonwealth.
