Source Reduction Ditch Maintenance
Our goal is to remove debris, silt and vegetation from drainage ditches throughout our service area to improve water flow. This eliminates standing water, and prevents mosquito breeding.
We use erosion control materials and re-seed to stabilize soils disturbed by our operations.
The Project utilizes a low ground pressure excavator to remove sand and sediment from ditches. This track-mounted excavator is specially designed to work in wetland areas. Crews use hand tools including chain saws to remove fallen trees, limbs and other debris from ditches.
Open Marsh Water Management
In marsh habitats, small fish eat mosquito larvae. This technique reduces mosquito breeding as it allows such fish easier passage.
This reduces the need for mosquito adulticiding in the immediate neighborhood. We can also prevent the growth of invasive plants, and create a better habitat for waterfowl and other birds.
