Speech-to-speech relay

Speech-to-speech relay is one of many options we offer for relay services.

What it is

Speech-to-speech (STS) is designed for people who can hear but may have difficulty being understood. Our operators are trained to be familiar with a wide variety of speech patterns. You can use your own voice to speak directly to people you call and the operator will be there to clarify as needed.

Tips for calling

• Feel free to take your time as there's no time limit for calls
• Give the operator as much information as possible before your call is connected
• It's helpful if you pause while the operator revoices
• Indicate how involved you'd like the operator to be in your call whether that's to repeat everything you say or to clarify only when invited to do so
