Strengthening Education Reform

Massachusetts has much to be proud of around student success and educational achievement

Massachusetts' students lead the nation on many educational measures.

  • Our students scored #1 again this year on the National Association of Educational Progress (NAEP) exam, commonly referred to as the Nation's report card.
  • Our students have scored first or statistically tied for first place on NAEP tests in fourth and eighth grade reading and math since 2005.
  • And we are the most educated state in the nation, with more than 50% of our workforce holding a bachelor's degree.

Since Education Reform was launched in 1993, all school districts have improved, but not at an equal rate.

So we need to strengthen the foundations of Education Reform by upgrading our standards, updating our assessments, strengthening and revising our accountability system, in order to close achievement gaps for all students.
