How to complete document verification in MyMassGov
This video is part two of the “How to complete identity verification in MyMassGov” video. If you have not watched the first video, it is strongly recommended that you pause this video and watch it.
During the identity verification process, about 12% of people will receive a message requesting additional information.
This could be because some of the information they submitted doesn’t match a verified source, or they may have made an error when entering it.
To continue with identity verification, you will be asked to complete document verification.
Document verification requires:
A mobile device with a camera.
A valid government-issued photo ID. Like a driver’s license or a passport
To get started with the document verification choose between two options:
Enter your mobile device number and select “Send SMS” to get a link by text
Or, scan the QR code with your mobile device’s camera. Access the link when you receive it.
You will be asked to consent to the terms of use.
Choose to submit a government-issued photo identification document
You will need to allow verifyid.mass.gov access to your camera.
Place your ID on a flat surface with the front facing up.
Hold your mobile devise over the ID so that all four edges are visible. Focus your camera on the ID and follow the prompts until the photo is captured.
Submit the image for validation or retake the photo if it is not clear.
Flip your ID over and follow the same steps.
Choose to submit a photo of yourself.
Hold your mobile device in front of your face. Make sure your camera is switched to Front Camera. Align your face with the frame, holding the device at eye level. Look directly at the camera and select the “capture” button.
Submit the image for validation or retake the photo if it is not clear.
If you received a “Identity verified” notification you have completed the identity verification process and proven that you are who you claim to be.
If you received a “We are unable to verify your identity” notification, your identity is not verified.
That will not stop you from using state services or benefits programs. You can reach out to the agency responsible for the service directly.
Once you verify your identity through MyMassGov, you may not have to do it again when you apply for state services.
