How to complete Identity Verification in MyMassGov

Identify Verification is the process of proving you are who you say you are, the same way you do when opening a bank account or getting a state issued ID card.

Identity verification helps to keep your information safe and helps prevent identity fraud.

To keep your access to government services secure, the state of Massachusetts gives you the opportunity to verify your identity when using MyMassGov.

How does this work? Massachusetts uses technology  that specializes in identity verification and fraud services. Once you submit your information it is checked against known, verified sources to ensure only you can access your account.

To begin, create or log in to your MyMassGov Personal or Business account.

Next, navigate to the Account Settings page and select “Identity Verification.”

Select “Begin Identity Verification.”

Review your name and email address

Enter either your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

Verify your phone number. To do this, enter the phone number at which you’d like to receive a verification code and choose whether to receive the code by text or automated phone call.

Enter your date of birth

Enter your residential street address.

Review your information for accuracy and select "Submit"..

If the next screen shows “Identity verified”, then you have completed the identity verification process.

You may be asked to provide some more information. Select "Finish verifying your identity". You’ll be brought to a process to verify an ID like a driver’s license or passport.

Once you verify your identity through MyMassGov, you may not have to do it again when you apply for state benefits.

If MyMassGov can’t verify you, that will not stop you from using state services or benefits programs. You can reach out to the agency responsible for the service directly.
