MyMassGov uses Multifactor Authentication (MFA) to ensure that your account information is safe and secure.
You’ll need the following to get started:
A MyMassGov account. A device that can receive calls or texts, or download an authentication app
First, log in to your MyMassGov account, or create one if you don’t have one.
When you reach the ‘Choose an Authentication Method’ screen, you’ll be given the option to set up an Authentication App, Phone, and Secondary Phone. We recommend you set up at least two.
If you wish to set up an authentication app, select ‘Authenticator App’.
Select ‘Continue’.
Open your authentication app. This may be one you have used before such as Google Authentication, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator.
Add a new account. You can either use your phone to scan the QR code shown on the MyMassGov page, or type the account key or code shown. Keep in mind that your app may require both the code and the key.
Your authenticator app will give you a one-time code. Enter the code in the field on MyMassGov.
Finally, select Continue to complete the setup.
If you choose to add a phone, select the ‘Phone (Voice and Text Message)’ option on the ‘Choose your authentication method’ screen. You may also select ‘Secondary Phone (Voice and Text Message)’ if you want to set up more than one phone number.
Select the ‘Continue’ button.
You'll now be on the “Link your phone number” screen. Select the correct country code for your phone number.
Enter the phone number where you want to receive your one-time code.
You'll now be prompted to either receive a text or phone call. Select ‘text me’ to receive a text, or ‘Call Me’ to receive a call.
Select the ‘Send Verification Code’ button. This will either text you or call you to give you your one-time code.
After you receive the code, enter it into the field on MyMassGov.
Select the ‘Verify’ button.
Repeat the entire process if you chose to add a second phone number.
Now that you are set up, you may be prompted to verify your account the next time you log in. If so, you will be brought to the ‘Verify your account’ screen.
If you set up verification with an authentication app, select ‘Authentication app’.
Enter the six digit-code you receive from your authentication app into the field on MyMassGov.
Then select ‘Continue.’ If done correctly, you will be logged into your account.
If you set up verification with a phone number, select ‘Phone (Voice and Text Message)’ on the ‘Verify your account’ screen. You may also select Secondary Phone (Voice and Test Message) if you wish to use your second number.
Then select either the ‘Text Me’ or ‘Call Me’.
Select ‘Send Verification Code’.
When you receive the code, enter it into the box on MyMassGov.
Finally, select ‘Verify’. If done correctly, you will be logged into your account.
