transcript  RESPECTfully: Friendship Breakup

[Announcer speaking and words on screen with background music] The breakup story. Friendships grow. Friendships change. The next chapter is your choice. Ending a friendship can be hard, but you don't have to be harsh.

[Girl 1 speaking and word bubbles on screen] Hey, can we talk? So, I feel like you're avoiding me. What's up?

[Girl 2 speaking and word bubbles on screen] [audible sigh] Um, I'm not trying to avoid you. It's just well…

[Girl 2 thought bubbles on screen] I don't feel like talking about this right now, but getting mad isn't going to help. Just be nice and honest. She's my friend.

[Girl 2 speaking and word bubbles on screen] I feel like you don't want me to have other friends. When I try to talk to you about it, you brush it off. It's like my feelings don't matter.

[Girl 1 speaking and word bubble on screen] What?

[Girl 1 thought bubbles on screen] Is she kidding? Take a deep breath. She's my best friend. This really isn't good for either of us. Maybe we just need a break.

[Girl 1 speaking and word bubbles on screen] I've just wanted to have fun like we used to. And lately you never had time to hang out. Maybe we just need some space?

[Girl 2 speaking and word bubbles on screen] Yeah, I think you're right. Are you mad at me?

[Girl 1 speaking and word bubbles on screen] Not mad, but I'm not going to lie, I'm upset. Let's talk later. Okay? I just need some time to think about things.

[Announcer speaking and words on screen] When it comes to your breakup story, the next chapter is your choice. For more breakup tips, check out the breakup toolkit at mass.gov/respectfully.
