The coolest feature about the new Go Fish MA app is the ability to track your location in real time.
So right now, I’ve got four tip-ups out for pike, but pike fishing is really slow, so I want to jig for perch. They tend to like deeper water, so using the app I was able to find water where I think I’m going to find some perch today.
What I have here is an ultralight jig stick, a small spinning reel, and four-pound monofilament line, and I have that paired with a small jig.
My favorite lure through the ice to jig yellow perch is the Hailey jig tipped with two spikes.
You can buy the Hailey jig at most tackle shops in Massachusetts, and spikes are also readily available at those shops too. It’s a great all-around lure for any kind of panfish you’d want to catch through the ice.
