Motherhood is a joyful, exciting time, but it can be stressful too.
Before you take your newborn home, be sure to talk with a nurse about making an appointment with Welcome Family, the free 90-minute visit with a nurse who's experienced in supporting moms and newborns.
The nurse will check on your health, answer your questions, help address your most pressing needs, and connect you to other resources in your community.
There's a lot to know about caring for yourself and your newborn.
You may feel overwhelmed by all of the instructions you're getting.
And once you're home, you may have new questions you never thought to ask, about your health or your baby's health.
Most moms do.
That's why Welcome Family is here so you can get the answers you need.
The nurse will encourage you to ask questions about parenting and anything that may be concerning or even a little scary to you.
There will be plenty of time to talk.
The nurse will ask questions to make sure you're doing okay.
Have you been getting enough sleep?
Do you have the support you need from family and friends?
Are you eating well?
Are you feeling upset or depressed?
The nurse is there to help with information and advice about things like calming your baby, bathing, changing, breastfeeding, and ensuring that your home is safe.
After the visit you'll get a follow-up call to see how you're doing.
The welcome family program is for any mom with a newborn.
It doesn't matter what your income is, how many children you have, or if you are enrolled in other programs.
Others who are helping you take care of your baby are welcome too.
Most visits take place in your home, but if you're more comfortable meeting at a different location that's okay.
The visit, follow-up call, and support are all completely free.
Being a new mom is one of the most incredible experiences in life, but for many new parents, it can be stressful too.
