What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-Factor Authentication, or MFA, is a tool that is widely used to ensure people have secure access to their accounts.
MFA adds extra layers of security by requiring multiple ways to prove your identity.
MFA will ask you to provide a combination of the following:
Something you know:
This will likely be a password that you create
Something you have:
Such as a phone or authentication app to receive a verification code, or a security key.
Something you are:
Such as a face or fingerprint scan
Multi-Factor Authentication makes it harder for security threats to steal your identity and credit card information, access your accounts, and delay or even block your benefits.
Many state services are now requiring MFA.
