Asthma and Your Environment

Some chemicals and pollutants in your environment can make your asthma worse. Your environment is where you live, learn, work, play or visit.

Asthma attacks can be triggered by certain environmental factors such as air pollution, mold, pets/pet dander, and dust mites in the environment. The Environmental Epidemiology Program (EEP) within the Bureau of Climate and Environmental Health (BCEH) provides information about asthma and the environment and helps to educate the public about the variety of environmental exposures that can trigger asthma attacks. BCEH conducts annual asthma surveillance of children ages 5-14 by gender, grade, school, and community in Massachusetts.
