Certification Unit

The Certification Unit is responsible for licensing and compliance of Private Detectives and Watch, Guard, or Patrol agencies, appointing Special State Police, and conducting various background investigations for police-related agencies.

The Certification Unit conducts 9 different types of background investigations for: Recruit Training Candidates (RTT), Cadets, Department of State Police civilian employees, Private Detectives, Watch Guard Patrol Agencies, Special State Police, Department of State Police interns, temporary employees, and in-state and out-of-state backgrounds requested from outside Law Enforcement Agencies.

*IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT* Completion of the Private Investigator & Watch Guard License Form is required for all original and renewal private investigator or watch guard applications.  Once the form is selected, scroll down, enter each question and click submit at the bottom of the page.
