In accordance with the provisions of G. L. c. 30A, §20, and Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2025, notice is hereby given that a hybrid meeting of the Board of Elevator Regulations will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
Agenda
It is anticipated that the topics shown below will be discussed at the aforementioned meeting:
- Roll Call.
VAR26-0056
Product Variance
Outlook Outdoor Elevator
Code Reference: ASME A17.1 (2025) Section 5.3.1.1.2 (b)
Petitioner: Jason Ford
The petitioner is seeking a Product Variance for the Outlook Outdoor Elevator, which is compliant except for ASME A17.1 (2025) Section 5.3.1.1.2 (b). As this is a completely shaftless elevator, there is no hatch cover closing an opening through the floor. Instead, it has a top obstruction safety pan covering the entire top of the cab. The top safety pan will shut the unit off in the up direction when 20 lbs. or more is placed on the top.
- Matters not reasonably anticipated 48 hours in advance of meeting.
- Old business (The Board may or may not discuss):
- VAR26-0042 & VAR26-0043
25 Northern Avenue Boston
State ID: 1-E-16035 & 1-E-16036
Code Reference: ASME A17.1-2013 Section 6.1.3.6.4 - Safety Zone
Petitioner: Brennan Clarke
The petitioner was before the board on July 7, 2026, and the board voted to place the item on a 120-day hold, which provided a deadline of November 4, 2026, for the applicant to investigate additional options for code compliance or provide documentation showing the scope of hardship.
The petitioner is seeking a variance from ASME A17.1-2013 Section 6.1.3.6.4 - Safety Zone in which they are proposing a solution for the deficiency.
If you need reasonable accommodations to participate in the meeting, please reach out to Cheryl Yebba at 617-701-8711. While the Board will do its best to accommodate you, certain accommodations may not be available if requested immediately before the meeting.
Please be advised that recording meetings without prior permission from the board chair, by any means, including the use of any A.I. applications, is strictly prohibited.
