Overview of Cadet Open House and Orientation Session
The Open House and Orientation Session for incoming State Police Cadets will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022. Attendance is mandatory for all incoming Cadets.
You must report between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Please do not arrive earlier than 7:30 a.m.
The Open House and Orientation Session will be held at the State Police Academy in New Braintree, MA:

Upon arrival, please park as directed by the Troopers on site. Remain in your vehicle until a Trooper directs you to exit. Be prepared to wear a mask in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.
- Academy Overview - Members of the Department of State Police will present you with information about the State Police Academy and other units that will be relevant to your initial experience as a State Police Cadet. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and become familiar with what to expect from the Cadet Program.
- Human Resources Onboarding - Human Resources staff will provide you with an orientation to the benefits, policies, and required paperwork for newly hired employees.
- Fitness Assessment - You will participate in a fitness assessment that includes a timed 1.5 Mile Run. This run will take place outside on a paved surface. The Academy staff will use the results of your fitness assessment to gain a better understanding of your fitness level upon entering the Cadet Academy next month. You must have a completed Physical Fitness Release Form in your possession when you report for this event.
- Photo/Fingerprints/Tattoo Inspection - In addition to the fitness assessment, candidates will be photographed, fingerprinted and inspected for tattoos that are visible when wearing the Department’s Summer Class B uniform shirt. This activity pertains to determining your status relative to compliance with the Department’s policy on tattoos, body art and body modifications.
You must report in a "V" neck t-shirt, gym shorts, running shoes, and socks. All candidates shall wear a sweatshirt and pair of sweatpants over their t-shirt and gym shorts. As dictated by the weather and personal preference, candidates may, in addition to the above requirements, wear appropriate cold weather gear, gloves, and/or knit hat.
The event will begin at approximately 8 a.m. as soon as sign in activities have concluded. You can expect to be dismissed by 1 p.m. Questions can be directed to msp.cadetprogram@pol.state.ma.us
You will need for Cadet Open House and Orientation Session
- Have a signed and witnessed Physical Fitness Screening Release Form in your possession.
- A completed Direct Deposit Form.
- Have an active and valid photo ID in your possession. You must show your photo ID to the State Police representative(s) who will sign in candidates. Examples of acceptable forms of photo ID include an active and unexpired driver’s license or ID card issued by a U.S. state or territory, a U.S. Passport or Passport Card, a U.S. military ID or a school ID issued by an educational institution located in the United States.
- Know your social security number. Print or write it and bring the note along with your photo ID if not memorized.
- Know your Candidate ID number.
- Bring a bottle of water and snack, if desired. Food will not be available on site.
