Public Meeting Notice  Conway-Shelburne – bridge preservation and superstructure replacement, Bardwell’s Ferry Road over Deerfield River

Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 7 p.m.

Address

Conway Grammar School, Cafeteria, 24 Fournier Road, Conway, MA 01341

Overview

A Public Informational Meeting will be held by MassDOT to discuss the proposed project in Conway and Shelburne, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed project. All views and comments made at the meeting will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of replacing the deteriorated steel support beams of the 31 ft Span 1 of the Bardwell’s Ferry Bridge with new galvanized and painted beams, replacing the timber deck and timber support beams of this span and the 198 ft Span 2 main truss span, cleaning and painting all structural steel and wrought iron, performing miscellaneous steel and concrete repairs, upgrading the highway guardrail transitions at the ends of the bridge, and milling and paving the roadways for about 100 ft at both approaches to the bridge. No changes to vehicular, pedestrian, or bicycle access are proposed due to the physical and historic constraints of the existing bridge. The roadway on the refurbished bridge will remain 14 ft wide, curb-to-curb, allowing for one lane of vehicular traffic, with pedestrians and bicycles continuing to use the shoulders of this same area.

MassDOT provides translation, interpretation, and other reasonable accommodations upon request. Requests should be made at least ten (10) business days prior to the event. Please contact MassDOT’s Highway Project Accommodations office at MassDOTHighwayProjectAccommodations@dot.state.ma.us for your accommodation needs.

In case of inclement weather, a cancelation notice will be posted on this website.
