How does active forest management protect and enhance the Quabbin watershed, the drinking water supply and ultimately contribute to climate change mitigation in Massachusetts? Join a DCR-Division of Water Supply Protection (DWSP) forester on a walk through a recently completed harvest of a red pine plantation and surrounding stand of white pine and hardwoods. Learn about why trees were harvested, see what a recently harvested lot looks like, and discover how DCR-DWSP promotes methods of sustainable forestry in our watershed. We also will look at the foundations in the area and discuss how the land was used prior to the construction of the reservoir. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and bug spray.
